Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Saathi collects, why, and who can see it. By creating an account you agree to it.
01Who we are
Saathi is a carpooling coordination app for members of institutions, operated by its founders ("Saathi", "we", "us"). Contact for anything privacy-related: ridewithsaathi@gmail.com.
02What we collect
- Account details: your name, phone number and institutional email address.
- Vehicle details (drivers only): the vehicle information you enter when you post a driver request.
- Trip information: the driver and rider requests you post, routes, pickup and drop-off points, who connected with whom, and the fare estimates calculated for you.
- Location: your device's location, only while the app is open on screen. We do not track you in the background.
- Messages: the content of chats you send inside the app.
- Technical data: device type, app version, etc.
- We do not collect payment details, bank information or government ID numbers.
03How we use it
- To check that you are a member of an institution and to run your account.
- To match drivers and riders, show routes on the map, and calculate fare estimates.
- To show a driver's live position to riders in the same pool.
- To send you service emails (for example, verification) and respond to your messages.
- To investigate complaints, safety concerns, abuse and misuse of the app.
- To fix bugs and improve Saathi.
- To comply with the law and protect the rights and safety of users and of Saathi.
04Chat messages
Chats are not end-to-end encrypted. They are stored on our servers, and authorised members of the Saathi team can read them to investigate complaints and safety issues, find problems users face, and improve the app. Please do not share passwords, financial details or other sensitive information in chat.
05Location and live tracking
While you are in an active pool, your live location is shown to the other members of that pool. Live tracking is an information feature only. It can be inaccurate, delayed or unavailable, and it is not a safety or emergency service.
06What other users can see
Other users can see your name, institution, the requests you post, and vehicle details if you are a driver. Your phone number is not shown to other users; people communicate through in-app chat. You choose whom to connect with.
07Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Service providers that run the app for us: Google (Firebase and Google Maps Platform), Supabase, Brevo and Redis. They process data on our behalf under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Authorities or courts, where the law requires it, or where we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to prevent harm or investigate a serious incident.
- Our providers may store data on servers outside Pakistan.
08How long we keep data
We keep your personal data only as long as needed to run Saathi, resolve complaints and safety issues, and meet legal requirements. When you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we need to keep certain records for safety or legal reasons.
09Your choices
Email ridewithsaathi@gmail.com from your registered institutional email to ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or to close your account. We aim to reply as soon as possible. You can also turn off location permission in your phone settings, though the map and tracking will then not work.
10Security
We use reasonable technical measures, including access controls on our database. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that your data will never be accessed without authorisation.
11Age
Saathi is for users aged 18 or over. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we may remove it.
12Changes
We may update this policy. If the changes are significant, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Saathi after an update means you accept it.
